Ronald Kister - Tips for Teaching Students

“My experiences at Plainedge Public Schools and Levittown Public Schools has strengthened my leadership and IT management skills,” he says. Here are some tips for teaching students in the classroom, no matter the subject.

Take control of the class. In order to be an effective teacher, you need to be able to have control of your class. Start out the year by establishing a set of rules for the class to follow. This will ensure that every student understands how he or she needs to act during class time, and it won’t leave any room for interpretation when it comes to completing daily assignments.

In addition to taking control of the class, you need to have a lesson plan for every day of the week. This is an issue a lot of experienced teachers have as well as new teachers. Despite how much you know on a particular topic, you still need to come into the classroom prepared. Not having a plan will result in a bad learning environment for the students, and it will make your points seem chaotic.

Finally, you need to allow for student help outside of the classroom. Some students are uncomfortable asking questions during class or admitting that they don’t fully understand a topic. Although this type of anxiety shouldn’t be encouraged, they still need to learn. Allow for one on one time outside of class.
